Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in St. Louis Park, MN
I specialize in working with people having relationship issues. Relationship issues can be anywhere from considering ending the relationship to just wanting to improve communication or sex. For those considering divorce, I am trained in a special process called Discernment Counseling. These sessions offer a couple a bird's eye view of the relationship, how it got to this point and what would need to change. It gives them a chance to make an informed decision on staying together or breaking up.
The majority of my practice is couples counseling. I strongly believe in the power of healthy relationships and the potential they provide us. When we are happy in our relationships, everything in the world seems great and when we are having problems in our relationships, everything in life seems like it is falling apart even if it isn't. I love helping couples build happy, healthy, and fulfilling relationships and have better sex!
Relational Therapy is truly a unique approach to couples counseling. Couples comment on how different these sessions are compared to their other couples therapy experiences and how much they appreciate it! This therapy is direct, coaching and empowering to help couples make changes to have a strong, happy and healthy relationship. It also moves quickly! I've seen couples who have been angry for years start to love and laugh again after just a few sessions!
Discernment Counseling is for couples thinking about divorce but don't know if they should. It is a highly structured process that gives them clarity on how their relationship got to where it's at now and points out exactly what would need to change in order to feel happier in the relationship. It asks both partners to take accountability. What I love about Discernment Counseling is how effective just one session can be!
Many of my clients struggle with porn use, mismatched desire or low desire. I take a non-pathologizing approach to sexual issues and pride myself on being sex positive. Educating people on sex topics and using techniques to adjust behaviors and perspectives allows them to be freed from what is holding them back in order to have better sexual experiences.
Infidelity/affairs/cheating, pain with intercourse, lack of desire or interest in sex, improving communication about sex, overcoming past sexual abuse or trauma, enhancing current sex life, resuming sex after baby, troubling fantasies, non-monogamy/open relationships, exploring sexual orientation or gender identity, poly relationships, kink, among others
