About My Clients

Dr. Trela focuses on the treatment of depression, anxiety, trauma, stress management, substance use, and life and relationship transitions. He also has extensive experience working with patients who have patterns of self-medication with alcohol. Dr. Trela knows that no two patients are identical and strives to develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with his patient that will benefit their holistic wellbeing.

My Background and Approach

Dr. Trela has experience working with individuals across the lifespan in a variety of settings including private practice, community mental health clinics, university student health centers, and integrated into primary care medical offices. Dr. Trela has specialized training in both Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). CBT focuses on how our thoughts, feelings and behaviors all interact to lead to certain patterns we get stuck in. DBT is helpful when exploring relationship patterns, how to manage big emotions in the moment, mindfulness and relaxation training, and better understanding what our emotions are and what they mean. In addition to his clinical training, Dr. Trela maintains involvement in research regarding substance use and its intersections with mood and personality disorders.
