As a primarily Person-Centered counselor, my main goal in counseling is to provide you with a safe, comfortable, and judgement-free space to explore your goals and process any concerns you might have. For couples, it might include increasing intimacy, repairing trust, managing conflict, or reconnecting emotionally with one another after months or years of distance. For individual clients, this might include managing symptoms of anxiety or depression or exploring the impact of one’s early life experiences on their perception of the world.
As a Systemic couple’s counselor, I view a relationship as a system/emotional unit. I see emotional disconnect in the system, not as the fault of one person, but as a pattern or cycle that is impacted by both partners as well as outside influences. This view allows couples to identify many possible changes in the system to reach their goals.
