About My Clients
I know what it means to be on a journey. So do my most of my clients. My clients often find that whether you are looking to discover a new path or need a guide to talk things through with, I bring an approach that considers the immediate concerns but also looks at some of the bigger picture patterns in thinking and relationships. My clients tend to be open to creative but informed approaches. However, I am recognized for utilizing different approaches based on the needs of my clients.
My Background and Approach
I have a background in couples and individual brief therapy work. Although I have worked within employment and education fields in the past, after moving to Wisconsin from Sydney (Australia), I found myself more and more fascinated with the specialist area of systems therapy which considers our environment and interactions within others as part of the healing and forming process, not simply what is going on within one's own mind. I received a Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from Edgewood College in Madison and soon after co-founded Stonetree Therapy in Waunakee. My approach allows for gaining insight about our lives but I don't believe that insight is always a prerequisite for change and that in some cases it can actually hinder it. I utilize clinical hypnosis (if desire), and systems theory to understand the patterns and cycles in your current circumstance and to gain access to deeper resources. This results in a very individualized approach to helping you reach your goals.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that most people are trying really hard to do the best they can within their given situation/perspective and that therapy is especially helpful as it provides access to a view that is different from the current thinking. I believe that therapy is both an art and a science and that most people's potential is much greater than they know. I believe that, in comparison, the area north of Madison is largely unsupported when it comes to mental health care and in my life I've always tried to place myself where I could do the most good. Co-founding Stonetree Therapy in Waunakee is an expression of that desire.
