About My Clients

My client range in age from 12 through adulthood and are often LGBTQIA+ or family members of LGBTQIA+ folks. Clients who work with me often seek an anti-oppression therapist to work on internalized "isms" and internalized capitalist messages in a compassion-based approach. While working together, we often discover the ways diet culture, fatphobia, and negative body image messages have influenced their mental health. Other clients seek me out because of my Health at Every approach.

My Background and Approach

I have been practicing mindfulness and insight meditation before training as a counseling psychologist, and it is an ongoing practice in awareness, patience, compassion and honesty for me. My most recent training in Liberation for Healing (a decolonial approach to mental health) and my awareness expanded as to the ways in which capitalism and colonial frameworks have impacted our work as healers. Tools for recovering the self after trauma, working with our mental health rather than against our symptoms, and managing our experiences with emotions looks different for each person. I would like to collaborate with you on how to best support you meeting your needs. We can work to find the most liberating tools and techniques, and that might take on the form of meditation and contemplative work (or it may not).

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

The person is political; therapy is a political act; and for some of us existing is a radical form of resistance against capitalist, colonial forces. I work and live within LGBTQIA+ communities,, and live and work within a mid-size fat body in a fatphobic world. My worldview if a femme-informed one, where empathy and compassion are key to surviving and thriving in this culture. I actively acknowledge that I am fallible, and try to walk along clients' side as an imperfect ally and support. Client contain their own inner wisdom for self-healing and growth, and through the therapy relationship we often work to unlock those inner resources.
