About My Clients
I’d like to introduce you to something called your Autonomous Healing Center. It’s the part of you that KNOWS there’s more to life than whatever situation you've found ourselves in—struggling with food, your relationship with your body, overwhelming feelings that never seem to go away, or even a life that’s “just okay”, but not great. Here’s some good news: you’re already connected with the part of you that knows how to heal, just by being here and reading my profile. Cool, huh?
My Background and Approach
I know that struggles with food and body image often need an out of the box approach. My practice focuses on working in partnership toward what heals you. Using a unique combination of creative, action-based therapy methods and Somatic Experiencing, I help people make simple adjustments that lead to big impacts in their lives. My professional career began in substance use treatment, which formed me into a thoughtful clinician and fierce advocate for clients who encounter stigma and access barriers to care. Forever a scholar, I have dedicated over 500 hours to advancing my education through training and supervision in the last five years. I am so passionate about these methods and their potential to heal because I have seen them at work. I have watched myself and others live more aligned with personal values, approach situations with greater perspective, compassion, and discernment, and actually do the things that were only dreamed about in the past.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I assume people do the best they can with the tools they have. Some of us did not get the resources and support we needed early in life and learned to survive despite this. The things we used to survive in one situation sometimes become maladaptive or even dangerous in another. Often, this survival requires us to ignore or even disconnect from our body, mind, and/or spirit (however you choose to define this) in the service of keeping us alive. Therefore, the most profound healing occurs when we can address them all at the same time. This transformation can sometimes come with laughter! Your Autonomous Healing Center already knows what you need to heal, even if its messages are not clear to you right now. I see myself as a guide who can help you better understand and move toward your personal idea of wellness. I prioritize collaboration, offering you choices and ideas for the direction of our work, because I respect that your needs and energy are different from day to day.
