About My Clients

Although my training in secure facilities has exposed me to a uniquely diverse set of clients, diagnoses, & presenting issues, my "big 3" treatment areas include providing affirming and competent care within the LGB/TGNC+ community, substance-abuse treatment tailored to the needs of the individual, and trauma-focused therapy. My ideal client is someone who is seeking a change, but maybe does not know where to begin. If you're here, you have already begun, and I'd love to help guide your journey.

My Background and Approach

I graduated with my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Sam Houston State University. A primary area of training /service includes working with the trans/gender expansive community, LGB+ folx, and their families/significant others. I have a strong background and training in providing gender-affirming care across a variety of settings and with diverse populations. I am a member of several Divisions of the American Psychological Association including the Society for the Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity, the Society for Addictive Psychology, & the American Psychology-Law Society To me, therapy is a dynamic, two-way process where we identify specific, measurable goals and develop practical solutions. I focus on building a strong therapeutic alliance and fostering change in each person who walks through my door. In utilizing an empathetic, non-judgmental approach, I strive to make every client feel comfortable and confident in their own ability to enact change.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am very passionate about issues of social justice and consider myself, as a psychologist, to have a responsibility to educate and advocate for marginalized, underserved, and minority populations. Thus, I am passionate about spreading awareness on a variety of topics including by not limited to barriers in access to mental health care, stigma with seeking mental health care, mental illness more broadly, and issues relating to injustice/ discrimination/ microaggressions/ macroaggressions etc. among minority populations. I have provided formal trainings and workshops for both colleagues/professionals & community members on issues specific to gender identity, the importance of using true names, pronouns, and inclusive-language, and encouraging others to consider the gendered language they may use. I believe it is my responsibility to provide culturally-competent and affirming care; thus, I make it a priority to educate myself & others on issues of diversity and mental health care.
