The mind is such a powerful tool. CBT, simply put, is the belief that the way we think affects the way we behave. I have seen this time and time again and this approach WORKS. I use this approach, in conjunction with other therapies, throughout my practice. It works well with self-esteem issues, anger management, behavioral issues, suicidal issues, depression and anxiety, issues in interpersonal relationships, and many other problems that one may face.
This is my general approach to counseling. An eclectic approach simply means that I use a variety of different therapy styles to create the best fit for the client/clients. There is no cookie-cutter approach that I use, so you can rest assured that I have, with your assistance, developed a treatment plan that is unique to your problem areas or areas of growth.
Through my doctorate program and professional experiences, I am able to assist families with issues related to communication, understanding, emotional, and violence related issues. I work with the children of divorcees, couples who are getting divorced, families dealing with a deployed member, families with troubled adolescents, death in families, children exposed to domestic violence, sexual assault in families and an array of related family issues utilizing family therapy.
I have worked as a Trauma Therapist for nearly three years for survivors of domestic violence. I know the importance of having someone on your team that understands the confusion behind loving someone who is/has been abusive. I use my expertise to help clients gain a better understanding of the cycle of abuse, but more importantly, to equip them with the tools to BE SAFE regardless of their decision to stay or end the relationship. This is an area that I am very passionate about!
I hold a doctoral level Marriage and Family Therapy certificate in General Family Therapy & am currently working on a doctorate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. I utilize my educational and practical experiences to help strengthen relationships or help in the aftermath of dissolution of relationships. I believe in fairness and the importance of individual growth as a part of obtaining and maintaining a healthy relationship.
Personal growth is core to every session that I have. I understand that clients come to counseling to grow. Rather that is growing out of something, growing into who they are destined to be, growing into a better version of themselves, growing in their careers, growing in their relationships or as parents, or growing knowledge about themselves. I believe that having the tools to increase self motivation is optimal in personal growth.
