Passionate about helping others people heal from religious trauma and purity culture. Trauma focused, EMDR Trained
Licensed Professional Counselor in Exton, PA
I help individuals heal from traumatic events related to toxic theology and purity culture. You may be experiencing; feeling disconnected from your body and emotions, on edge all the time and have a negative self-image, isolating from important relationships and engaging in impulsive behavior, nightmares, intrusive thoughts, poor sleep and flashbacks.
TF-CBT is used to help a child gain mastery over trauma. I value this approach because the caregiver plays a big role in the child’s recovery. Each session, I will spend individual time with the child and the caregiver teaching them skills to practice together. We’ll address physical, emotional, cognitive and behavioral changes in the child since the trauma. The child will work towards writing their own narrative and if needed- safety skills, assertiveness and sex education is incorporated.
EMDR is used to help process past traumatic memories so they’ll have less of an impact on your present day. With this model, you do not have to share all the details of the trauma. We will work together to allow your body to create the healing it’s designed to do. We’ll use eye movements or tapping to promote the healing. There are 8 total phases. I have been trained in an approach that also incorporates somatic techniques and attachment theory.
ACT’s goal is to increase our psychological flexibility. ACT’s approach can be powerfully effective for anxiety and depression. There are 6 main components- which include skills to unhook from thoughts, connect with present moment and skills to live out your personal values. This is an experiential approach full of experiments to find what is most helpful for you. There are lots of fun, helpful metaphors and skills to take home and practice right away to change your daily life.
I help individuals navigate spiritual issues like faith deconstruction, purity culture, integrating sexual orientation and gender identity. You may be experiencing; wrestling with integrating your faith and sexuality / gender identity, adjusting to a loss of a religious tribe and therefore a lost sense of belonging, a collection of homophobic, racist, ableist, patriarchal and/or sex-shaming church practices, and/or a loss of your worldview after engaging in dogmatic, fundamentalist teachings
