Clinical Social Worker in Cincinnati OH, OH
Peter Levine, Resmaa Menakem, and Bessel Van Der Kolk all inform my approach that centers on somatic healing. Through regular trainings, consultation and readings and my own therapy, I have built a deep appreciation for how to work with people who have experienced trauma. The most important recognition that I have developed through the years is the need for people to be validated and respected through their unique journeys. There is no single path.
An approach to therapy that uses DBT can be incredibly helpful for folks who struggle with emotional dysregulation, including the depression and anxiety that often accompany trauma. I prefer to use the foundations of the dialectic - two things can be equally true - and apply various interventions that directly support clients as a way to acknowledge that DBT can be a part of a diverse toolkit but it is not for everyone.
CBT is a part of my daily approach and interventions in work with my clients. Having trained and practiced with CBT for years, I regularly use CBT interventions with the recognition that clients want to feel better. CBT helps clients recognize their own patterns and interactions with others, but must be done with a respectful and collaborative manner.
