*Not taking new clients 11/13/19* Looking for a therapist who is more interested in how you define yourself than in helping you be "normal"?
Clinical Social Worker in Somerville, MA
My practice centers transgender experiences. I make every effort to honor your identities, genders and experiences, and to stay with you and responsive to you if and when things evolve or change.
I actively stand against systemic oppression in my work and my life. As a cisgender, white person with class privilege this is an ongoing commitment and effort, and one that happens outside of the therapy room (in my own therapy and through my relationships, supports and ongoing training). All that said - I still screw up all the time, and listen and take accountable, relationally-driven action when people tell me so.
I avoid thinking or speaking of those I consult with or their loved ones as the problem. Rather, the Problem is the Problem. I want to know you apart from your problems, so that I can stand with you against the problems that attempt to influence you. To highlight this separation I use a technique called "externalizing." For example, if you say, “I am depressed”, I might ask, “How did you notice Depression first influencing your life?”
