Anxiety can present in so many different ways. Through people pleasing behaviors to avoid conflict, in over thinking and stressing about things out of our control, feeling tense/ on edge. Other common symptoms my clients share include feeling like you have nervous energy in your body or feel the pressure to be perfect. This can also present in our bodies feeling muscle tension, stomach problems, headaches or migraines.

Depression is often tied to us not having the same energy that we did in the past. You may notice yourself being easily distracted or not able to concentrate. Maybe your past times/ hobbies are not enjoyable or you don't even have the energy to give them time. Depression symptoms are on a polar extreme- so your appetite can be non existent or now you're eating your feelings. Your sleep can be minimal or now you're not feeling rested even after 12 hours. These are warning signals from our body.

Trauma has been present in every setting I've ever worked in. It is one of the most pervasive issues of our time. Most people have shame around their trauma or tell themselves things like "it's in the past, I should get over it". But that's not how it works. For our bodies that trauma is still fresh. Whether it was a frightening experience, sexual abuse or a near death accident- our body and minds need help to process. I use EMDR and narrative therapy with most PTSD cases.

Depression responds well to cognitive approaches because we can shift negative self talk, actions and emotions. One of the most challenging things clients face is how to increase their low motivation. More often then not the motivation comes later, not before, we change our behavior.

I have seen an uptick in clients with anxiety, which includes perfectionism and people pleasing behaviors. Often their is part of us that worries what others think, if we will make someone angry or if we will be "good enough". Through EMDR, parts work and talk therapy we can process and release these patterns that are leading to you feeling burnt out.

We have spent years helping others, studying, taking continuing education courses so we SHOULD be able to sort through our own struggles right? Nope, there is no such thing as being able to independently handle every issue we face.
