About My Clients

Although my practice is open to clients with a wide range of concerns, I specialize in treating new parents (with a very broad definition of both "new" and "parent"), people who consider themselves caregivers, and adolescents transitioning into adulthood. I've found that these groups share many of the same themes of transition, uncertainty, burnout, judgment, and isolation (an unsolicited life advice), and enjoy working to help alleviate some of that.

My Background and Approach

Because we are a society rife with trauma and toxic stress that we may not even realize we have, I have found it most helpful for my work to be trauma-informed and treat the mind and body as a complete unit. Beyond the more typical talk therapy interventions, I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Maternal Mental Health, have a certification in Trauma-Informed Yoga, and I’m currently working towards my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Certification. I have a Masters Degree in Social Work from Tulane University, and nine years of clinical experience in private practice, research, and a local pediatric oncology clinic.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe strongly in the core values of the social work profession, and disagree that those of us working in a clinical capacity should be removed from them. As a white woman, I feel it is incumbent upon me to avoid doing harm with my many privileges, and to have difficult conversations about who is or isn't represented in the various positions in our field. As someone who works extensively with trauma and maternal health, it is impossible for me to "be neutral" about how issues of race, gender, class , etc show up in these populations. Although I am proud of the work I do on an individual level with clients, and have unending respect for their resilience, I am also aware that my work does not end there, and that issues of trauma and maternal health must be addressed on a systemic level as well.
