About My Clients

Does it feel like you and your partner speak different languages? Are you questioning your gender/sexuality? Love someone who is? Struggling with your kids? Your parents? Going through perimenopause? Feeling alone? This can feel overwhelming! Let's work together to help you make sense out of it and feel better about life. Let's chat for a bit on the phone (no charge) and see if we feel like a fit.

My Background and Approach

My doctorate is in psychology-marriage and family therapy. My MA is also in marriage and family therapy. I trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) under Dr. Sue Johnson. My BA is in Deaf Studies (with an emphasis in the Arts & Education) from CSUN, and my teaching credential is from CSUN as well. I am a certified professional life coach. I am also a trained improvisor, having completed the conservatory at Second City. Other than my freshman year of college at UC Santa Cruz where I took my first Humanistic Psych class in a redwood forest, I have lived in southern CA my entire life. I really love this work and cannot imagine doing anything else. Well, I'd sing if I could! When we work together, it's collaborative. You are the expert on you. Sometimes it's hard to have perspective when you are so close. I can provide that perspective in a loving way.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I grew up with a straight mom and a gay dad. I co-founded COLAGE (look it up) in 1990 internationally, and COLAGE LA in 1987. I have been working with kids with LGBTQ parents (and LGBTQ parents!) for more than 30 years. I am an active, loving, supportive member of the LGBTQ+ community. My MA thesis and PsyD dissertation were both on the issue of the paradox of supporting your transgender loved one, while also possibly dealing with disenfranchised grief over the loss of the identity the person you knew before they transitioned. While I'm certainly not versed in ALL cultures, I am incredibly respectful of others' beliefs, customs, and traditions. I see clients of all races, faiths, and cultures.
