About My Clients

Do you... Have the sense that you're always on "autopilot?" Suffer from guilt, shame, depression, or anxiety? Keep finding yourself in one unhealthy relationship/friendship after another? Struggle to communicate constructively or have those tough conversations with others? Wish you were more assertive? Find yourself thinking "terrible" or self-damning thoughts? I can relate because I have been there and I can help because I know the way out. It's time to take control of your life and be well.

My Background and Approach

I am a Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) practitioner that takes a multifaceted approach to helping my clients learn how to heal themselves by thinking and feeling differently. I provide my clients with a variety of tools and resources that can be used immediately and indefinitely. My goal is to help all of my clients to become more self-assured and less dependent on external sources of validation. My clients are culturally diverse and come from all walks of life. This is a judgement-free zone where I like to keep things reasonably casual and relaxed, so you can feel more open and free to be yourself as you go through this process with me. I tend to be very active-directive in my approach to counseling because I don't see the therapeutic benefit of paying someone to listen to you talk for an hour week after week. Change requires action. If you're ready to make the effort to change, I'm ready to work with you to show you how to make that happen.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Your thoughts create your emotions which influence your behaviors whether you're consciously aware of it or not. I know that this is true because once I started applying the tenets of REBT and mindfulness to my everyday thinking, it began to change my life for the better - I stopped requiring prescription medications, attending weekly counseling sessions, and having severe panic attacks/bouts of depression; I started feeling better and making better choices. It freed me from the confines of my fear of negative evaluation and external validation seeking. Was it easy-peezy-lemon-squeezy? Heck no it wasn't, but it also wasn't nearly as difficult or as bad I had made it out to be in my mind which funded my "procrastination and personal misery accounts." I believe that once you make up your mind that it's time (desire), learn about effective evidence-based therapeutic interventions (knowledge), and then put those tools to use (effort) your life will change for the better.
