Clients have called me an emotional ninja and a wizard. I love what I do and it comes through in my work.

Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Portland, OR

About My Clients

I work well with clients who are looking for deeper change than they've found in other types of therapy or self help. I have particular experience in working with: LGBTQIA folks People in Polyamorous or Consensually Non Monogamous relationships Survivors of sexual abuse Survivors of trauma New parents Couples and people in relationships People recovering from abusive relationships

My Background and Approach

I am very focused on research and evidence based practices for treatment. I am particularly excited to have added Brainspotting as a tool and am incorporating it into most of my work with clients. I have training in Gottman method for couples counseling, which comes from 40+ years of research and is very skills based. My goal is that you leave the office with more insight, tools, and empathy than you came in with. I also focus on getting people back on the same team with their partner(s) because my assumption is that at some point, you probably worked well together and have skills we can build off of. For those struggling with shame, guilt, and lack of self compassion, I draw from the work of Brené Brown. It is one of the greatest joys in my work to see people learn to overcome their shame and feel more at peace with themselves, so they can bring their best self to their lives.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I got into this work because I fell in love with my own process of healing and personal growth and decided I wanted to help other people do the same. I believe everyone needs support to get unstuck at some point in their lives. None of us got the perfect role models or tools for who we want to be. That goes doubly so for a lot of people in the LGBTQ and Poly communities and those affected by trauma. I think counseling is one way to put some focused attention and get support around making the changes we want, so that our lives are more satisfying. My job is to help with insight, self compassion, and support in a plan to move forward. I am queer, polyamorous, a feminist who believes sexism ultimately hurts everyone (though not in the same way), a believer in Health at Every Size, a mama, and I love to cook. I won't cook for you (because boundaries), but everything else might come through in our work together. Also, I think if we're not laughing sometimes in therapy, we're doing it wrong.
